DOEMap NETWORK / LEGAL

Privacy policy

Last updated October 25, 2026

DoeMap Network (“Doemap,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates Doemap, an independent research tool for exploring public missing-person and unidentified-person case records. This policy describes the information we handle when you use Doemap.

Information we handle

  • Account and authentication information: your email address, account identifiers, password authentication data, and session information needed to sign you in and protect your account.
  • Research activity you save: case identifiers, saved-case choices, review status, and notes you choose to add. These are associated with your account.
  • Case comments: comments you submit on case records, the display name on your account, and comment timestamps. Comments are visible to signed-in members and may be retained with the case discussion until deleted by you or removed by Doemap.
  • Usage and membership information: daily case-access counts and dates, plan status, and billing identifiers and subscription status used to provide and manage membership.
  • Service requests: information sent when you use app features. For related-news searches, Doemap sends a public case number, source, and state to search for coverage; it does not send a case name or description for that search.
  • Public case and news information: case records from NamUs and the Doe Network, and article links returned by GDELT when you request a news search.

How we use information

We use this information to operate and secure accounts, provide case search and review features, enforce the free daily access limit, provide paid membership and case comments, respond to support requests, and maintain the service. Private review notes are not shown publicly; comments are separate, public submissions.

Service providers and sources

We use infrastructure and database providers to host Doemap and store account and research data, an email provider for password-reset messages, and Stripe to process subscription checkout and management. When you check out, Stripe handles payment details; Doemap receives billing identifiers and subscription status, not your full card number. Public records and optional news-search results come from their respective sources and may be subject to those sources’ own terms and privacy practices.

Cookies and security

Doemap uses session cookies needed to authenticate and maintain your sign-in. We use reasonable safeguards intended to protect information, but no internet service or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.

Retention and your choices

We keep account, saved-research, and membership information while it is needed to provide the service, meet legal or accounting obligations, resolve disputes, and protect Doemap. You can manage or cancel a paid subscription through the billing portal. To request access to or deletion of account information, contact us at [email protected]; we may retain information where required or permitted by law.

Children

Doemap is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Doemap changes. We will update the date above when we publish a revised version. Continued use after an update means the revised policy applies to your use going forward, to the extent permitted by law.
